Our beloved seasonal workshop on making paper with Common Milkweed has been a wonderful adventure for many years — and this year, we’re opening it up to a wider audience!
For the first time, we’re offering a live online version of our popular Milkweed Papermaking workshop, designed to teach you the fundamentals of making paper from plant fibres at home, using simple, low-tech equipment.
Over this 2-hour live masterclass, we’ll use Common Milkweed as our main example to demonstrate the different steps involved in turning plant fibres into handmade paper. The techniques you’ll learn can easily be adapted to many other plants and fibres, making this a great starting point for anyone curious about botanical papermaking.
We’ll share our tips and tricks for harvesting, separating, cooking and pulping milkweed stem and seed fibres, then demonstrate how to form, press and dry sheets at home with a simple setup that doesn’t require any fancy equipment or specialized materials.
The class will combine theory, live demonstrations and a Q&A, giving you a clear understanding of the papermaking process and plenty of practical tips to get you started at home.
